Falstad Art is a temporary art project which is realized in 2009 and 2010 at the Falstad Centre – a memorial and human rights centre located in the main building of the former German SS camp Falstad.

The art projects at Falstad will

  • put Falstad on the map as a place for communication, for encounters with art, ideas, experiences and opinions

  • be a supplement when it comes to passing on the expertise knowledge of the Centre: its prisoner history from the war, the culture of remembrance, and human rights

  • contribute to reflection and discussion concerning the function of art and its role in conjunction with current social issues

In 2009 two temporary projects by artists living in Norway are presented, and in 2010 Falstad Art shows two projects by artists from Poland and Serbia.

The project is initiated by KORO (Public Art Norway, formerly called “Utsmykkingsfondet”). A project group has drawn up the outlines of the project and is responsible for its implementation. The project group consists of: Tone Jørstad (director of the Falstad Centre), Ingeborg Hjorth (assistant curator at the Falstad Centre), Anne Helga Henning (artist, Trondheim) and project leader Per Formo (artist, Trondheim).

Falstad Art is financially supported by KORO, Norsk Kulturråd (Arts Council Norway), Fritt Ord Foundation, Nord-Trøndelag County Council and Levanger Municipality.
